The shelf life of bee pollen?

This summer, I purchased Bee Pollen from local farmers market. It is in a pellet (dry) form and I was wondering if it has a shelf life. I know honey does not.

Angela's Comments:

Raw bee pollen does have a shelf life, particularly if it has NOT been refrigerated or frozen. If it has remained at room temperature, then you likely have 6 months to a year to consume it. If you kept it in the fridge, you have likely have 1 - 2 years. Frozen bee pollen will keep for several years.

Shelf life of bee pollen if kept in the fridge?

by Trisch M.

I was wondering, what is the 'shelf-life' of bee pollen granuales stored in the fridge. I had some given to me just before I had gotten very sick and on chemo, so I didn't take it. I was nervous of mixing anything with all the drugs I was on. I have still got my bee pollen granuales, I couldn't bear to get rid of them.
They are the Dutchman's Gold brand. That was 3 years ago! They look fine, as good as when they were bought???? Should I sadly get rid of them??
Thank you so very much for your time! Trisch

Angela's Response:

Hello Trisch,
Thank you for contacting me. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I've been away for the holidays. Great question. It has been my experience that if kept refrigerated and dry, bee pollen will keep quite well for several years. I would suggest tasting/smelling your pollen for any signs of rancidity and if nothing seems 'bad', go ahead and consume it.

Shelf life of frozen bee pollen?

I have had bee pollen in my freezer for about 5 years. Is it still good?

Angela's Response:

If the bee pollen has been kept frozen for the entire 5 years, it should be ok. What I'd suggest is de-thawing it and trying only a few granules to determine if it tastes fresh. If you suspect in any way that it is not good, don't risk it and get yourself some freshly bagged/bottled bee pollen.

Shelf life of bee pollen?

I've had a jar of bee pollen granules in my pantry for probably several years and it looks the same as when I got it. should I throw it out??

Angela's Comments:

Not necessarily. Look for any signs of spoilage. Has it been kept at room temperature? Does it smell bad or off? You might even want to taste a few granules to see if they taste ok. If it was kept dry and cool, it may be consumable. Error on the side of caution though.

What is the shelf life of pure bee pollen Texas Honeybee Guild?

Hi Diana,
Great question. Is this product in a sealed package or has it been opened?

Generally speaking, if it has been kept cool or at room temperature, you have a year. If its been stored in the freezer (which I recommend) you'll have several years.

Shelf life of Bee Pollen whole granules

How long to keep once opened?

Angela's Response:

Once opened, bee pollen granules will last one year if kept refrigerated. They will last indefinitely if kept in the freezer. If kept at room temperature, I'd recommend consuming within 3 - 4 months.
