Propolis - dry or fresh and other things to look for??

by Annica

Hi Angela

My husband and children have used bee pollen for a couple of years now with excellent results to over come hay fever. I'm now keen on trying out bee propolis but have little knowledge of what to look for in a good, quality product. Can you recommend a brand or properties to look for when selecting one?

Sorry, I didn't answer your entire question. As for what to look for, there are a number of things to consider. Like I said in my previous post, the raw form of propolis is very difficult to work with and ingest. Getting kids to take it will be close to impossible. Powders or liquids will be much easier. Powders work great if you can mix it into something like honey or a smoothie. From a potency standpoint, the issue with powders is the drying process which can damage the propolis a bit. I prefer liquid tinctures. For your kids, stay away from the higher percent tinctures because these will be more resinous or 'sticky' and they don't tend to taste very good. Ultimately, the fruit flavored product I recommended is perfect for you and your kids.

How to choose a good propolis product
by: Angela

Hi Annica,
Great to hear that you're having some success with bee pollen! I always love to hear that! As for propolis, it is actually my favorite product of the hive. The only issue with Propolis, if it has one, is that it can be difficult to ingest in raw form. It is quite hard and resinous and can stain the teeth. It doesn't taste the greatest either. Fortunately, there are other options. Our most popular propolis product is a fruit flavored, alcohol free version that we make. It tastes great and goes down very easily. I give it to my kids and they love it. You can find it here:

Hope that helps!
