Fresh Frozen Royal Jelly Refrigeration in Shipping

by Jessica
(Victoria, British Columbia)

Hi Angela,

How does your Royal Jelly (the fresh frozen royal jelly) stay fresh in the shipping process. Do you use temperature controlled shippers?

I absolutely love what Royal Jelly (the fresh stuff) does for my hormones and skin, and I can't seem to get it anymore around here.

Angela's Response:

Yes, we ship our fresh frozen royal jelly with a special ice/gel pack and thermal packaging to ensure that it stays cool during the shipping process. And more importantly, the thermal packaging prevents any heating of the royal jelly which is less desirable than it thawing, which is okay provided it is not left that way for weeks on end.

Royal Jelly still good?
by: Anonymous

Hi! Is my royal jelly still good? I unfroze it about 4 months ago and it has been all this time in the fridge, the color and consistency is the same as when I first opened it. It tastes bitter/sour as when I first tried, but the taste is not as strong. Is it still good to eat? I want to increase my egg quality.

Rolly Jelly- do not refridgerate
by: Kiley

Hi,
I just bought fresh royal jelly in honey but it says under caution "DO NOT KEEP IN REFRIGERATOR." I thought all royal jelly had to be refrigerated?

Thanks,
Kiley

Angela's Comments:

Not when mixed in honey, which preserves it.

Is my royal jelly still edible
by: Anonymous

I ordered royal jelly online with two day shipping. The royal jelly comes with a small ice pack. Bothe the royal jelly and ice pack are hot given that we have 100 degree temperature recently. I put it in the fridge immediately but I am wondering is it edible at all?

I really appreciate your kind help.

Angela's Comments:

Yes, with it only being in transit for two days, it will be fine.

Question about refrigeration
by: James

I thawed out a mason jar worth of royal jelly to keep in my fridge to take. It may have been in there for about a month or two before I started to take it. Is it still active? After reading here about it only lasting for 3-4 weeks I got out a smaller jar and put the rest in the freezer again. It has not changed color and still tastes the same(That might not mean anything but it seems worth mentioning). Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi James,
Most likely it is fine. If it doesn't smell rancid or taste rancid, it should be fine.

Ship fresh royal jelly to abroad
by: I. Sumarmo

Hi Angela,

I want to send a fresh royal jelly from Indonesia to Japan, how the correct way of packing and coolant what to use? Thanks.

Hi there,
I recommend packing your fresh royal jelly with some type of ice pack (reusable) and also, if you can, use some type of thermal container or cooler. We use styrofoam shipping kits along with re-usable ice packs which stay frozen longer than ice.

Hope that helps,
Angela

Fresh Frozen royal jelly expiration date? Refrigerate or freeze?

by Erika V.
(Guelph, Ontario)

Does the fresh frozen royal jelly have an expiration date? How long will it last if kept refrigerated? And if kept frozen?

Angela's Response:

The Royal jelly does not have an expiration date when it is kept frozen (best in a deep freezer). If royal Jelly is kept refrigerated it does not go bad in the same sense
that milk or vegetables would but the enzymes, which are alive begin to break down after 3 weeks. In this sense a 50ml jar, when taken daily could possibly be kept refrigerated because it would be finished in 3-4 weeks.

Forgot to freeze
by: Micaela

Hello, I bought a big jar of royal jelly 5 months ago, and it’s been always been in the refrigerator but I didn’t know I had to freeze it, it is still good or better buying a new one?

Hi Micaela,
Tough to say without tasting the royal jelly. I would suggest you sample a small amount and taste for rancidness. Royal jelly is naturally very bitter so don't confuse the natural flavour with it having gone bad. Are there any signs of mold or spoilage?

Royal jelly 6 days in transit.
by: Elbaz

I bought royal jelly online and shipped it expedited
it was shipped on ice. However, it arrived after 6 days and the ice has melted. Is it still good to use?

Hi Elbaz,
Difficult to say without more details. There is a chance that it is ok. If shipped frozen and on ice, it likely spent 4 full days dethawed as the ice would have kept it cool for at least one full day, possibly two. As long as it wasn't exposed to extreme heat, my guess would be that it is ok as I know from experience that 4 days is within the limits of what a quality royal jelly will sustain provided it wasn't heated.

Hope that helps,
Angela

Thawed royal jelly still good?
by: Kelly

We ordered Royal Jelly, which was shipped frozen, but it was lost in transit for about 2 weeks. It took about 3 weeks to arrive, and it was shipped frozen with extra ice packs surrounding it, so I am not sure how long it was thawed for. After that it was in the fridge for about a month and then was refrozen. Would it be any good at this point?

unfrozen for three days in spoilt fridge
by: Anonymous

My royal jelly was unfrozen for three days in closed spoilt fridge, temp ard 25degree celsius.can the royal jelly be eaten if i refreze it again?

Angela's comments:

Most likely yes. 3 days is not that long. Look for signs of spoilage and you may want to taste a very small amount to see how if it tastes similar to how it tasted before you thawed it.

Oops forgot to freeze my royal jelly
by: Kellie

I bought a big jaw of raw royal jelly in a hard plastic container and was placed in the freezer for about 11/2 year and than it has been sitting in my refrigerator (NOT Freezer) for 2 years.

I think the jelly is about 4 years old by now. Is it still safe to take it?

Thanks

Hi Kellie,
I would say no, it is likely not good anymore. We recommend a few months max in the refrigerator.

In your answers to questions about storage of Royal Jelly, you indicated that thawed Royal Jelly could be re-frozen. But I have read that thawed Royal Jelly should never be re-frozen. Could you comment on this?

Angela
Yes, it absolutely can be refrozen Mary Lou provided the royal jelly hasn't been exposed to heat or is expired.

Storing fresh Royal Jelly

by Karen
(UK)

I have just bought some fresh (not frozen) RJ. Do I need to keep it refrigerated or can it be kept at room temperature for a few weeks?

Angela's Response:

Fresh royal jelly should be refrigerated at all times and even better, kept in the freezer if possible for maximum freshness. If you are consuming it within a reasonable time frame, it is ok to simply refrigerate.

Royal Jelly Capsules turned brownish colour from light yellowish
by: Anonymous

Hi Angela,
I was given a pack of Royal Jelly capsules of 1000mg - life span till 2020. I have yet to open the pack n stored it in the closet/cabinet and not refrigerated as the advice on it said not to refrigerated under 20°C or so. The capsules' colour turned from light yellow to brown color. It is not good for consumption anymore? And if it still good, what is th better way to store it? Thank you.

Angela's Comments:

By your description, they are oxidizing and going 'bad.' Best to avoid. The best way to store royal jelly capsules is exactly how you did, at room temperature.
