Expired royal jelly capsules

I recently purchased royal jelly capsules (equiv 500 mg RJ). On returning home, which is a two hour drive away, I noticed that the Use By date is 09/2013 - they were probably reduced in price as it was a warehouse store. As I am not likely to get back to the store in the next few weeks, I am thinking I will still open the jar and use them. I just wanted to check if you think they are still worthwhile with this use by date.

cheers, Shirley K

Hi Shirley,
Generally in the supplement industry products are marked for expiry much earlier than their actual date. A general rule of thumb is that products are good for one year passed their expiry date. So you should be fine.

HI I bought some royal jelly capsules at a food bank 6 years ago that were close to expiry date even back then. As they are past being edible can I use them for anything else ? For example in gardening carpentry art or anything at all ?

Yes, just don't consume them.

Outdated royal jelly gelcaps
by: Anonymous

I came across a bottle of royal jelly gelcaps purchased over 3 years ago. The bottle was still plastic sealed and the inner seal was intact and very secure. I opened it and looked at the gelcaps. They appear 'normal' in every way.....even loose and not stuck to each other. They were stored in a cool dry file cabinet since purchased. Figuring what the heck.......I have consumed 3 of the gelcaps with no ill effects so far........no, wait........is that a vampire over there? Really, though. While I wouldn't recommend taking vitamins or supplements outdated by over a decade, perhaps outdated by just a few years poses no threat to health other than the fact they might not have the desired positive effect that they would have if of a more recent manufacture.

Expired 3 years royal jelly capsules
by: Anonymous

I just realized that my royal jelly capsules expired on 2015, I think it's probably can't take anymore right??

It has most likely lost its efficacy but they generally don't 'go bad' so it is still safe to consume. You just won't get all the benefits of a fresh product.
