Royal Jelly Health Benefits
Scientists from around the world have begun to figure out what those of us in the bee industry have known for years - that Royal Jelly is one incredible substance with seemingly unlimited benefits to human health. And now they are beginning to investigate the many Royal Jelly health benefits through proper research studies. These studies are revealing incredible health benefits for conditions ranging from elevated cholesterol to skin conditions to even the extension of life span! It seems like the number of royal jelly health benefits are unlimited, that it has positive activity in almost all areas of the body. These studies are just a small sample of the research going on around the world on this amazing compound.
Royal Jelly Stimulates Bone formation
A group of researchers in Japan fed Royal Jelly to mice for nine weeks and found that it not only increased the content of certain important bone building minerals and nutrients such as collagen in the rat's bones, but it also 'turned on' their bone building genes. In essence, the RJ told their bodies to 'build more bone.' This sure is promising for those who have concerns with osteoporosis or osteopenia, both preventing or treating it. I recommend taking four 1000 mg capsules a day to promote bone health as well as other royal jelly health benefits.
Royal Jelly Lowers Blood Pressure
A group of researchers in Japan investigated the effect of certain peptides found in Royal Jelly on rats with elevated blood pressure.Giving the rats only a single dose of RJ orally, the researchers found that systolic blood pressure was reduced by just this one dose for eight hours. They concluded that the intake of RJ peptides, as a functional food would be beneficial for improving blood pressure in people with hypertension. Of the dozens and dozen of royal jelly health benefits, this particular benefit could potentially save our health care system the most money. Hypertension drugs are among the most prescribed drugs in the world. Unfortunately, they have tremendous side effects. I recommend taking 4 - 6 RJ capsules or a half teaspoon of fresh RJ per day to promote healthier blood pressure levels.
Royal Jelly Extends Life Span
Researchers at the Fujisaki Institute in Okayama Japan investigated the effect of dietary Royal Jelly (RJ) on tissue DNA oxidative damage and on the life span of mice. In the mice that were fed a dietary supplement of RJ for 16 weeks, the levels of 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine, a marker of oxidative stress, were significantly reduced. Generally, the greater the amount of oxidative stress in your body, the shorter your life span. The researches then determined the effect of dietary RJ on the life span of these mice. Overall, Royal Jelly extended the average survival time by about 25% compared to the control group. The researchers suggested that this life extending effect was likely caused by the anti-oxidant effect of Royal Jelly. In my opinion, this effect is the greatest of all Royal Jelly health benefits!
Royal Jelly Balances Immunity
The group of scientists that have recently shown that royal jelly has potent anti-allergic properties in mice decided to do further research to determine just what it is in RJ that has this effect. The scientists first took a special protein out of royal jelly called a glycoprotein and exposed it to mice spleen cells. They found that this protein suppressed what are called IL-2 and IL-4 cells. These are a key component of immune signaling and are required for the activation, proliferation, and survival of T cells. T cells are a type of white blood cell involved in rejecting foreign tissue, regulating immunity, and controlling the production of antibodies to fight infection. So what does this all mean? Well, it means that one of the major royal jelly health benefits is it's ability to modulate or regulate your immune system. Essentially, Royal Jelly acts like the conductor of your immune system. This is important because either an underactive or overactive immune system is not desirable. An underactive immune system leads to increased chances of getting diseases such as cancer or even just getting the cold or flu more often. An overactive immune system can lead to auto-immune issues such as lupus or rheumetoid arthritis, among others. Essentially, your immune system is confused and attacks itself. So, as you can see, the importance of a healthy, balanced immune system can not be overstated. Take three 500 mg capsules per day or one quarter teaspoon of fresh RJ to help ensure a healthy immune system.
Royal Jelly Stops the Development of Dermatitis
A group of scientists at the Fujisaki Institute in Japan looked into whether Royal Jelly suppresses the development of atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in mice. They repeatedly applied picryl chloride (an explosive compound used to cause inflammation) to the mice while feeding them RJ orally and found that it did indeed inhibit the development of dermatitis-like skin lesions in these mice. Royal Jelly has been shown in many studies to have anti-inflammatory characteristics. Most people don't realize that most skin conditions like dermatitis or eczema or psoriasis are just that - inflammatory conditions of the skin. It has been my experience that of the many royal jelly health benefits, improved skin health is perhaps the most desired benefit of its many users.(we all want to look great, right?)
My recommendations for dazzling skin health can be found here.
Royal Jelly Improves Pregnancy Rates
An experiment was conducted at the Jordan University of Science and Technology to determine whether natural royal jelly (RJ) paste administered orally or intramuscularly in conjunction with progesterone cream is associated with improved reproductive responses in ewes. Thirty 3 - 6 year old ewes were randomly allocated into three (RJ-capsule, RJC; RJ-injection, RJI and control, CON) groups of 10 ewes each. They were then bred with male ewes and tested to determine ovulation times as well as pregnancy rates. The scientists concluded that the results demonstrated both Royal Jelly treatments in conjunction with exogenous progesterone improved pregnancy rates. While this study was done on animals, it does support the large amount of anecdotal evidence regarding the hormonal balancing properties of royal jelly.
Royal Jelly Increases Energy
Scientists at the POLA R&D Laboratories, Yokohama, Japan investigated the anti-fatigue effect of fresh royal jelly in mice. The mice were accustomed to swimming in an adjustable-current swimming pool, then subjected to forced swimming five times during a 2 week period. During the forced swimming, the total swimming period until exhaustion was measured. They were separated into three groups which were administered standard RJ, fresh frozen RJ stored at 40 degrees C for 7 days, or the control solution before swimming. All mice were forced to swim for 15 min once; then the maximum swimming time to fatigue was measured after a rest period. The swimming endurance of the RJ group significantly increased compared with those of the other groups. The mice in the RJ group showed significantly decreased accumulation of serum lactate and serum ammonia and decreased depletion of muscle glycogen after swimming compared with the other groups, whereas there was no significant difference between the frozen RJ group and the control group in these parameters after swimming. These findings suggest that RJ can reduce physical fatigue after exercise, and this anti-fatigue effect of RJ in mice seems to be associated with the freshness of RJ. As you can see, there are many royal jelly health benefits that we know of! Scientists from around the world have only begun to uncover the many health benefits of this amazing superfood compound. Chances are by taking a daily dose of RJ, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out in the near future that RJ does much more for your health than you read about here as scientists uncover more and more of it's health benefits.
