Can I take Royal Jelly while taking blood pressure meds?

by Alan
(Aurora, Ontario)

Hi,
Although my blood pressure isn't very high, around 130 to 140 something, my doctor suggested me taking Atenolol. Overall I am healthy and I am 54. Can I take Royal Jelly while I am taking the medicine?
Thanks for your time.
Alan

Hi Alan,
You likely can but I am not a pharmacist so it is always best to run it by a pharmacist who knows a bit about natural products. Royal jelly doesn't have a history of interacting poorly with meds so I suspect you'll be ok. Keep in mind that royal jelly may lower your blood pressure a bit so you may have to adjust your meds a bit once you start taking it.

Bee healthy,
Angela

For doctors, the "something" is the important part.
Definitely look into the interaction, but I would highly suggest watching your diet, losing weight, and exercise (walking up hills is a good one), so you don't have to be on the meds in the first place.

I'm on them, and they are really not so terrific (chest pains, swelling, asthma...). I'm working on getting off of them, but am having a problem with the exercise and weight loss (ok, and the eating healthy part , too). FYI -- 15-20 lbs overweight.

A few things that I've noticed help -- 5000 mcg B12 a day, switching from Diamond Crystal to Pink Himalayan Salt (though I think any natural salt will do), and Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar taken with honey in warm water.
