Bee Stings

There is a growing population of people who are EXTREMELY allergic to a bee’s venom and bee stings. This can be serious and some can suffer from anaphylactic shock or worse.

When a Honey Bee stings you, they lose their stinger and the venom keeps pumping through, almost like it is still alive. The Bee dies. A honey bee will only sting you if you bother it or it is caught in your clothes or something.

When a wasp or hornet stings you, they do not die and can sting you several times. These pesky critters will sting you for no reason. They especially like sweet food and picnics. Wasps do not produce honey nor do they pollinate. Both types have venom.

Please note that Bee Venom IS NOT found in bee pollen or honey and those who suffer from a bee venom allergy can still eat bee pollen and honey.

The good news is that Bee Venom can also be used therapeutically for arthritis, neuralgia, rheumatism and related ailments. There is an old wives tale that Beekeepers never get arthritis because they get stung so much. My dad (the beekeeper) gets stung over 50 times a day!

If You Get Stung and ARE Allergic

Use an EpiPen: EpiPen is an auto-injector that administers epinephrine (also known as adrenaline)— the medication recognized by health care professionals as the treatment of choice for severe allergic reactions.

• Call your doctor. (of course!)

• Put ice on it and attempt to get the stinger out.

If You Get Stung by a Bee and are Not Allergic

It is normal for a bee sting to puff out like crazy especially in certain places. It hurts more than a mosquito bite. It does hurt – and it’s ok to get a few tears. Believe me – I know!

• The first thing to do is stop what you are doing and GET THE STINGER OUT!

• Put ice on it.

• Put pure honey on the sting to draw the stinger out then use tweezers to pull out the stinger.

• Relax – it’s natural – you aren’t going to die.

Just think about all the people that get stung on purpose (my mother for example) for healing. There are a lot of healing proteins found in Bee Venom. When I tried bee sting therapy, I actually felt like my adrenalin kicked in more than anything and I felt buzzed from it. No wonder my Dad likes beekeeping so much!
