Bee pollen while breastfeeding?

by Diane

I am currently breastfeeding. Is it ok to take raw bee pollen?

Angela's Comments:

Excellent question. Let me preface my answer with this. I am not a doctor and I can't medically advise people. I can only speak from own personal experience and pass these on.

That being said, we have had many clients safely use bee pollen during pregnancy and while breast feeding.

In fact, I consumed bee pollen during my entire pregnancy on a regular basis and continued to take it the entire time I breast fed. And my baby is healthy as can 'bee' as are the many babies that were fed bee pollen through their mothers breast milk! No side effects or negative reports have been reported back to me by the mothers. (this is not to say 100% that there were no issues but I think it is safe to say that it is unlikely there were any based on the complete lack of negative feedback)

Keep in mind that bee pollen is first and foremost a food. It is packed with vitamins and minerals, protein and good fats, all of which are healthy for a baby. Bee pollen has an amazing safely record and those that are sensitive to it have pollen sensitivities. Follow my directions in How to Take Bee Pollen and always ensure that your health care practitioner is aware of the supplements that you are taking. If at any time things don't feel right, discontinue consuming it.

I would highly recommend that you make sure you're consuming as safe a product as possible. Try to get a source that you trust is free of chemicals, insecticides, pesticides and anti-biotics. The last thing you want to do is pass these substances onto your precious baby.

Breast feeding and bee pollen?

Can I take bee pollen and nurse at the same time? Will bee pollen upset my baby's tummy if passed through my milk?

Bee pollen while breastfeeding?

by Camille M.

Hi there,
I have been advised to start having a protein shake that includes bee pollen in it - i am breastfeeding my 5 month old baby - some websites advise against lactating women taking bee pollen. Please advise your thoughts! If my baby were to be allergic, do you think it could be severe anaphelactic (spelling??) or because he would only be getting a small percentage it wouldn't be too harmful?? Im a little worried. Going to order some of the skin creams, they sound fantastic :-)
Look forward to your reply. Camille

Angela's Comments:

Hi Camille,
Great question. While I'm not a Dr. and certainly encourage you to speak to your family Dr. or even better, a pharmacist, I have not heard of one instance of a mother consuming bee pollen while breast feeding and the child having a reaction. I consumed bee pollen while breast feeding and had no issues whatsoever and my child now has a very strong immune system and no sign of allergies. So it is food for thought but in my opinion, it is a healthy practice which actually naturally helps build the childs immune system.

If you do decide to consume bee pollen while breastfeeding, start out with very small amounts and slowly increase them while monitoring your child's reaction/behaviour/temperament.

Bee healthy,
Angela

Breastfeeding while taking Bee Pollen

by Caron
(New York)

Is it safe?

Hi Caron,
It does appear to be safe to consume bee pollen while breastfeeding. Many of our customers have done so, as did I. Now, I can not medically advise you so it is best to speak with your doctor before taking any thing while breastfeeding. And if you do decide to consume bee pollen while breastfeeding, be sure to start out with very, very small doses (a couple of granules) and observing both how you tolerate bee pollen as well as how your baby tolerates it. Again, speak with health care professional before starting.

Bee healthy,
Angela

Is bee pollen pill safe while breastfeeding?

Is bee pollen pills safe while breastfeeding?

Angela's Response:

Great question. Virtually all supplement companies will tell you to NOT take bee pollen while breastfeeding. This is not because of any study that has been done but rather an extreme caution that is exercised towards pregnant and breastfeeding women. It has been my experience that most Doctor's will have you stop taking bee pollen during pregnancy and breastfeeding as well, mostly out of ignorance.

While I can not medically advise you on this, I can only offer my personal experience using bee pollen and other products of the hive during my own pregnancy and those of my clients. I personally used bee pollen during my entire pregnancy and while I was breastfeeding and did so safely. My child is perfectly healthy. My mother also consumed bee pollen during her 5 pregnancies and while breastfeeding. So it can be done safely. I do recommend you advise your Dr. of what you are taking if you do decide to consume bee pollen while breastfeeding. Expect him/her to advise you not to take it but know that there are many women out there taking pollen safely during this wonderful time.
