Bee Pollen Capsules

Bee pollen capsules are an excellent alternative to bee pollen granules. Admittedly, bee pollen granules take some getting used to for some people. It has a unique taste and texture and if you don't regularly consume smoothies in which to blend the granules into, then getting in your daily dose of pollen can be challenging.

Personally, I have grown to love the taste of bee pollen, as has my husband Mark. While I grew up consuming products of the hive like bee pollen, royal jelly, and bee propolis, Mark didn't. He now truly enjoys the taste of bee pollen and is an example of how when one changes their diet away from one primarily made up of processed and refined foods to a diet made up of almost entirely whole, unprocessed, live foods, then the palette begins to change and the body craves that which we were created to consume.

Unfortunately, the reality is that people lead busy lives and it is not always convenient to pull out a bag of raw bee pollen and start chowing it down! I also know that some people, no matter how beneficial raw bee pollen is for them, just aren't going to take a liking to the granules.

That's okay.

Luckily, there are many suppliers of bee pollen capsules on the market today.

While I consider bee pollen capsules a 'last resort' of sorts when it comes to consuming this wonder food, there are many marketers out there who disagree with me and claim that their bee pollen capsules are in fact a much better way to consume bee pollen than in it's raw, unprocessed form.

And that is okay.

But make up your mind for yourself if you're on the fence. Read my article on the benefits of raw bee pollen versus processed capsules.

The reason I worry about processing bee pollen is that it contains over 180 known nutritional ingredients including at least 22 amino acids, 18 vitamins, 25 minerals, 59 trace elements, 11 enzymes or co-enzymes, 14 fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates and approximately 25% protein.

These nutrients are all protected by nature. When you chew the pollen, you break this down and begin the digestive process which releases the nutrients into your gastrointestinal tract to be absorbed into your system where they are delivered to your cells.

By processing bee pollen and inserting it into a capsule, you change the process nature designed for us.

That may or may not bother you but it makes me nervous. Lately it seems the more we decide we know better than Mother Nature, the more do-do we seem to get ourselves in.

You also expose the many nutrients to oxygen and light, both which denature the delicate molecules found in pollen.

So do yourself a favor and consume raw bee pollen granules when you can. If you're traveling or just can't stomach the raw stuff, capsules are a great way to get the benefits of the world's most nutrient dense food.

What to Look For in a Capsule

If you decide that bee pollen capsules are the best route for you, great! I'm excited that you'll be taking the most nutrient dense food on the planet and will be able to experience the energy and vitality that only bee pollen can give you.

But let me give you a couple of tips in choosing a product. Because bee pollen is considered a food, there is very little regulation of the manufacturers around the world. As a result, it's up to you to protect yourself and to make sure you buy a legit product.

If I could make one suggestion that would make the process much easier for you and eliminate the need to do as much research, it is this:

Buy a bee pollen product sourced and manufactured in North America.

Why you ask?

I know, I know - I'm biased. You're right. But I'm biased for good reason. Canada has a very unique and strict regulatory process for all supplements manufactured within the country.

You can't simply open up a supplement company and start selling pills in Canada. You must register with Health Canada and have your manufacturing plant inspected and licensed. You must meet GMP standards. You are routinely inspected for cleanliness and quality. You must have a tracking system for anything you produce and obtain a special Natural Product Number from the governing body. If you don't believe me, go to the Health Canada website and search for the Natural Health Product Directorate.

This whole process prevents fly by night scam artists from selling tainted or ineffective product within the country and virtually assures that the consumer is getting top notch product.

This is not to say that there aren't companies outside of Canada that produce very high quality bee pollen capsules. There very likely are - but how do you know who they are?

Sure, they'll tell you that they do this and that and their product is the greatest, but who is verifying that information?

The only answer is to protect yourself and buy from a reputable company within a well regulated country.
